The design of Parks Library was driven by the community’s vision to create a welcoming public space that celebrates the local community and provides a focal point for the local area; a welcoming space for people to relax, read and learn.
Comments
The Parks Library was first built in 1978; developed as a leading example of integrated service design, sitting alongside neighbouring facilities which provided access to health, legal, welfare services, education, and the arts.
Over time the strategy for the complex changed and facilities, including the library were closed. After the closure there was a continued need and support for a library and a new plan was developed which incorporated a new library. The library continued the tradition of innovative service design.
Construction work began on the new Library in 2017, with a total project cost of $7.6 million.
