Comments
The project’s scope was to renovate of levels 1 and 2 of the J B Chifley Library at the Australian National University.
The renovation included the level destroyed by the flood (Level 1) and integration with the new Kambri cultural precinct (Level 2). Underpinning the project was a recognition of trauma from the flood and need to engage visibly with the community, rebuilding the library to enhance university experience.
The primary objects were to:Meet user needs of flexible learning spaces, light and amenities expressed through design workshops and surveys
• Creating a “student owned” ethos that shaped an extension of the village experience
• Enable group and individual experiences for reflective and shared study
• Create staff work areas that supported library life and modern workflows
• Harmonise the precinct for excellent client experience.
